apli!q - Clothes Can Be Fun - January 2nd

The apliiq - Clothes Can Be Fun - East Coast Launch Party was a complete success! Overwhelmingly so - it was probably even too crowded! Thanks to everyone who came out and again apologies to anyone who waited on line or didn't get in.

The night was hosted by none other than Isa of buggin out status and kicked off with a DJ set from SuperDunny. The first act was Theophilus London whose stage performance is like Spank Rock mixed with Sister Act but a little drunk. Later, Francis and the Lights demonstrated why they are considered one of the best live acts around. (If you have not seen them live you must check their calendar asap.) Friends With Benefits made sure everyone was dancing their asses off till last call.

Is Sugar the New Cocaine?

A study in 2007 found that the reward experienced from sweetened food surpasses the reward experienced from cocaine. In this study, rats were allowed to choose either intensely sweetened water or intravenous cocaine. Amazingly, 94% of the rats chose the sweetened drink over cocaine. The rats made the same choice whether the water was sweetened with saccharin, an artificial no-calorie sweetener, or sucrose, a natural sugar. When the rats were sensitized to cocaine and offered increasing doses of the drug, mimicking drug addiction, they still chose the sweetened water.

Convivial Gentry: A bowhunting conglomorate?

There has been much speculation about the recently appointed Ministers of Lawn Games and Cocktails, a team that goes by the name of Convivial Gentry. Who is this sinister Cabal of party-ers par-excellence? Little is known of their origins save an obscure Javanese patent for mustache glue baring their name. However, it is clear that they will not shy away from gimlets, wood nymphs or the company of he/shes. Watch out, their next gathering could be deadly fun or just plain deadly.
